Happy Earth Day Giveaway!

Earth Day Tips

So, most of us may not be ready to jump right in a buy a hybrid car or convert our home to be totally green, but here are a few affordable (most free!) tips to get you started!

PLUS- add your favorite conservation tip to The Embroidery Chick’s blog (www.TheEmbroideryChick.blogspot.com) and be entered in a drawing for a FREE CANVAS BOAT TOTE!!!

1. Reuse your water bottle. (Hmmm- you might want to see our sale on re-useable stainless tumblers!!) Avoid buying bottled water. We got a little filter dohicky for our sink faucet and it’s totally been worth it! (it even comes with strawberry and raspberry flavored “squirts”!)

2. Eat local foods or buy locally made products. I love going to the Farmer’s Market for super fresh in-season produce at a great price!

3. Buy compact fluorescent light bulbs. We switched to the curly-q light bulbs a few years ago and have yet to replace a SINGLE one!

4. Recycle your newspapers. Or better yet- I read mine online!

5. Car pool. Not really an option for you? To combine your errands at once, so you’re not driving to and from the house a million times during the week.

6. Go to your local library instead of buying new books. (Helps me keep down clutter, too!)

7. Get off junk mail lists. I LOVE flipping through catalogs and magazines, but most are available online. You can also use electronic banking and get your bills emailed to you!

8. Buy products that use recyclable materials whenever possible.

9. Bring your own bags to the grocery store. Or, if you have a bunch and always forget them (like I always do!), chose paper over plastic.

10. Lower your thermostat. I’d rather be cozy with an extra down blanket on me, than be melting because the heat is on too high!

11. Reuse. I’ll use medicine containers to put my old sewing needles in, so they are not loose in the garbage can.

12. Don’t throw it away, give it away!. I had a ton of old arts and crafts that I was going to throw away and remembered to give them to a local school. Afraid of thrift stores? How about having a bunch of girlfriends over for a clothing swap (plus fruity cocktails, of course!)

13. And one more- I added the following “signature” to my emails…” Go Green! Please consider the environment before printing this email”.

So don’t forget- post your tip to our blog (www.TheEmbroideryChick.blogspot.com) and be entered in a drawing for a FREE CANVAS BOAT TOTE!!! Available in Pink, turquoise, lime and orange. Winner will be notified on Sunday, 4/26, when the drawing ends. Don’t want to wait? These new totes are regularly priced at $25.00 but NOW ON SALE at $22.00. Want an even better deal? Order before 4/26 and get 2 totes for $40.00. It’s a super preppy tote- buy one for yourself and one for a gift! Don’t forget that Teacher Appreciation week is May 3rd-9th and Mother’s Day is May 10…Order today to beat the rush!

Happy Shopping!

*TIP*

If you're studying for exams do more readings online and try not to print out too many hand outs...if you have to, share with your classmates. It saves paper!

Instead of using paper products at meal time, put your regular plates and utensils to use.

Also, use hand towels to dry your hands with instead of paper towels or paper napkins!!
